Tree Removals by Professional Arborists
While Tree133 is primarily focused on tree preservation, it is sometimes necessary to remove trees. For trees that can no longer be retained – due to health or risk – Certified Arborists at Tree133 utilize advanced climbing and rigging skills to safely remove hazard trees in the most challenging locations.

Common situation where tree removal may be recommended include:

-
Dead or declining trees
-
High risk trees
-
Disease and pest control
-
Storm damage
Trees that are obviously dead or have significant structural damage can pose a safety risk to people and property. Proactive removal of compromised trees can prevent future damage or injury. And while we advocate for tree preservation, even the most thoughtful landscape update or property renovation may require removal of some trees.
Permitting for Tree Removals
The City of Seattle and other municipalities in the Greater Seattle Area have tree protection codes and specific requirements related to tree removals. Before a tree can legally be removed, certain conditions must be met. The tree removal process – even small trees less than 12” – can be complex and involve multiple steps. In the City of Seattle, tree service companies must be registered with Department of Construction & Inspections (SDCI) to perform this type of work. Tree133 is appropriately registered and can help you navigate the city requirements.

Preserving Wildlife Habitat
If a tree does need to be removed, it may be possible to preserve habitat by retaining a “wildlife snag” in your landscape. If the lower trunk is structurally sound and appropriate for retention, we use special "coronet" cuts imitate a natural, broken appearance, such as might happen in a storm. Then, bird nesting cavities, bat slits and bee tunnels can be added to enhance the habitat value for specific animal and insect species. Some snags are very natural-looking while others are more artistic. When a tree must be removed, retaining a wildlife snag can enhance your landscape and preserve space for desirable urban wildlife.
